Preschool through Second Grade - We will be exploring many different types of music. I like to have the students sing, and we also will play rhythm instruments. The students learn about the basic elements of Music, and use that knowledge to play the Boomwhackers. Music and movement are explored frequently.
3rd Grade - Our focus this year is on reviewing the basic elements of Music, and using them to learn to play the Recorder. We use the "Recorder Karate" method. Students are provided with a recorder and music folder at no charge. 3rd grade students are also given the opportunity to sing in the School Choir.
4th Grade - This year, students have the opportunity to participate in the Beginning Band Program, offered through District #27, in Lincoln. We continue to study all of the elements of Music. We use our previously learned knowledge to progress in our music-reading skills as we play the Boomwhackers and colored Handbells. Students may also sing in the School Choir.
5th-8th Grades - Students in these classrooms have the opportunity to participate in Band, Choir, and we also focus on learning the Choirchimes. Students perform special music for the Christmas Service and the May Crowning Service. This gives the older students a chance to sharpen their music-reading skills. We also enjoy playing the Boomwhackers by reading music notation.
